A South Asian Take on Whey: Why We Launched Lassi Protein

A protein powder category that was overdue

For years, the supplement aisle looked the same: chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter, repeat. If you grew up with mango lassi, rose milk, or chai, none of those flavors felt like yours. South Asian inspired protein powder barely existed, and we got tired of waiting for someone else to build it.

That is why we launched Lassi Protein: whey protein with flavors rooted in the drinks and desserts we grew up with, starting with mango lassi.

Who we are

We are Akshay and Aayush, two college students in Texas who love fitness and South Asian food culture. We are not a faceless supplement label. We built this company because we wanted protein we would drink every day, not another tub we would abandon after two weeks.

Our backgrounds are in coding and startups, which sounds random until you realize how much of launching a food brand is problem solving: formulation, packaging, shipping, and getting something real into people's hands. We learned fast because we cared about the outcome.

What South Asian inspired protein means to us

South Asian inspired protein powder is not just a marketing phrase. It means the flavor comes first from culture, not from a generic line extension added as an afterthought.

Our first product is Mango Lassi Whey Protein: 25g of protein per serving, five clean ingredients, and a taste that reminds you of the drink you already know. Whey protein concentrate, mango powder, yogurt powder, citric acid, and monk fruit. No artificial flavors, sweeteners, or colors.

We sell it in 0.5 lb, 1 lb, and 2 lb bags because we know not everyone wants to drop $50 on a giant tub before they have tried the flavor.

Our launch

We officially launched Lassi Protein in June 2026 with preorders open at lassiprotein.com. This has been months of testing recipes, fixing packaging, reading customer feedback, and shipping early bags to people who told us the truth about what worked and what did not.

Launch day is not the finish line for us. It is the starting point. We are shipping across the contiguous United States, building our community on Instagram, and listening to every review and DM because the next flavors we release will come from what you actually want.

Where the flavor comes from

When the people behind a South Asian food brand share the culture behind the flavor, the product feels different. We are not outsourcing taste to a lab and calling it a day. Mango lassi is personal to us, and we held the formula to that standard.
